Clinical Training
Interns at Eden Family Institute are exposed to a range of services and treatment settings. Interns receive testing experience comprising approximately 8-10 hours per week in which tests are administered, scored, and interpreted. Training includes comprehensive report writing. Screenings are conducted for ability, achievement, personality, cognitive impairment, and psychopathology in children, adolescents, and adults.
Interns will also receive therapy experience that comprises approximately 10-15 hours per week. Interns will carry a client load of between 10 and 15 individual, couple, or family therapy appointments per week. Weekly supervision includes 2 hours of individual and 2 hours of group supervision.
In addition to these duties, interns will assist in training practica students in testing administration, will attend staff meetings and training sessions, and will perform administrative functions in support of testing or therapy work. Interns are encouraged to develop individual interests in research, group therapy, or specialty areas.
Interns will also receive training and exposure to crisis counseling and service delivery to communities affected by trauma through FirstFruits Crisis Response. Previous interns and students have assisted in staffing shelters following Hurricane Isabel and provided mental health triage for displaced victims of Hurricane Katrina as volunteers for the American Red Cross.
Research & Development
Interns will be exposed to and trained in research-validated treatments for young children, teens, and adults. Training in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) is provided in didactic and experiential forms.
Previous interns and residents have designed, added, and administrated services including DBT, PCIT, group therapy for recently released inmates, specialized testing contracts for private schools and NILD organizations, researching and beginning the APA Self-Study, designing and administrating the APA Continuing Education program, and designing/coordinating our APPIC-Member Post-Doctoral Internship Program.
